Worth Welcomes Lon McCloskey
Worth Avenue Yachts is delighted to welcome industry veteran Lon McCloskey to our team.
A veteran yacht broker of over 30 years, Lon brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to compliment the Worth Avenue team. Recreational boating has been a family passion since the 1950’s and 60’s with Lon’s grandfather being a pioneer yachtsman (36’ Elco) on the Louisiana Gulf Coast and his parents to follow with several smaller Bertrams. Introduced to larger yachts in his early teens, Lon worked as a fishing mate and earned his first Captain’s license at age 19. He also worked at the local boatyard and moved into sales operating a Hatteras new yacht dealership in the early 80’s. Migrating to Palm Beach County 20 years ago Lon has been steadfast with his honest and knowledgeable approach to each transaction. Utilizing the service after a sale, Lon has earned a tremendous repeat and referral business with most of his clients purchasing multiple boats over the years. He has a “one stop shop” and “yacht broker for life” mentality. Lon has represented buyer and sellers in transactions up to 200’ and is well travelled around the world in pursuit of new opportunities. Lon also maintains a good book of charter clients utilizing this experience as a “try before you buy” approach.
Recognized by his peers in the industry, Lon was elected to serve on the board of the 1100 member Florida Yacht Broker’s Association. Serving 7 years and the last two year as President, Lon and his fellow directors were instrumental in the passing of the Florida Sales tax Cap in 2011. On a federal level, Lon and the FYBA political affairs committee members are working with elected officials in Washington DC on a listing bond for non-duty paid vessels. In early 2014 Lon stepped down from the board but still remains active in the association as a Past President.
For the last ten years Lon has also been a broker principal in a well-established and reputable yacht brokerage firm and has owned a multitude of boats. Understanding the operational side of the business is a key component in making decisions Lon takes a more long range look at not just one deal, but the relationship building that goes along with future deals.
Residing in Palm Beach Gardens for over twenty years, Lon is married with three children. Lon and his family enjoy boating all throughout south Florida and RVing beyond the state line! For more information or to be added to our mailing list, Lon can be reached on his cell phone or by email.
