Charter Itinerary
We have curated a list of ‘must-see’ destinations, experiences, and events to add to your San Juan Islands yacht charter itinerary.
Meet your yacht at Cap Sante Marina, located in the heart of Anacortes this bustling marina provides an excellent location to begin your vacation given its proximity to the islands. The San Juan Islands date back to 1791 when Francisco de Eliza, a Spanish naval commander, originally navigated through the waters. As you travel the same routes enjoy a refreshing cocktail and hearty canapes while watching for Orca whales to breach the water beside you.
Begin your adventure with a two-hour long cruise North to Lummi Island. After an impeccable dinner head back to the boat for a sunset cruise to Sucia Island, a perfect destination to anchor.
Wake up to the sound of birds chirping in the distance, their melodic tunes gently waking you from a deep slumber. Sucia Island is one of the largest archipelagos and provides 77,700 feet of shoreline and an 814-acre marine park. Look for bald eagles, blue herons, otters, and seals as you gaze upon the raw scenery surrounding you. The calm waters will entice you to grab a kayak for a relaxing morning paddle around the bay.
Return to the yacht in time for breakfast served al fresco on the aft deck. After a short hour-long cruise you’ll arrive in Roche Harbor. The historical resort and marina provide a wealth of activities and restaurants that will leave you amazed.
Once the sight of a large-scale lime quarry, play bocce ball under the massive lime kilns that once dominated this destination. Whether it’s one or a dozen, be sure to pick up the renowned donuts from the Lime Kiln Café before walking through the resort. Hike to the mausoleum or walk through the nearby sculpture garden before returning to the docks where you’ll be greeted with friendly smiles by everyone you pass. Lose track of time shopping in the boutique shopped filled with island inspired and local goods. Don’t forget to grab a copy of Chef Shaw’s famous cookbook, the pages are filled with his tasty creations, so you can take a piece of your stay home with you.
End the evening at McMillin’s Dining Room, the premier restaurant at the resort. As the sun sets of the marina casting its orange glow over the glassy water, listen for the color’s ceremony. A daily occurrence during the summer season, the colors ceremony is a favorite among guests and pays homage to the humble beginnings of the resort.
After a short cruise to Friday Harbor, also located on San Juan Island, you’ll arrive in a bustling town full of activities, shops, and restaurants that will leave you impressed. Known as an illustrious fishing destination, spend your afternoon as an angler chasing the abundant salmon, halibut, and rockfish that inhabit these waters. The unique underwater landscapes forged by the rocky islands and underwater reefs provides an excellent habitat.
If you’re lucky enough to be vacationing in the late summer through early fall, throw out some crab pots to catch fresh Dungeness crab. Give your catch of the day to the chef, to prepare while you cruise to Deer Harbor on Orcas Island. Complete your action-packed day at anchor enjoying the sublime scenery and eating your freshly prepared dinner.
Located in the East Sound and home to the Rosario Resort and Spa on Orcas Island, experience the splendor of this quaint northwest wonderland hidden in the woods. Listed on the National Historic Register, walk through the Moran Mansion originally built in 1906 by Seattle shipbuilder and Mayor Robert Moran. After learning about the local history make your way to the spa for a treatment that is sure to provide maximum relaxation.
After soaking up the majestic scenery of Rosario Resort and Spa, set off for Mackaye Harbor on Lopez Island. The longest cruise of your journey, you’ll pass by Obstruction Island before meandering around Blakely Island and Decatur Island. Keep your eyes open for the iconic white and green Washington State ferries that regularly pass these waters.
Originally named Chauncy Island and renamed Lopez Island in 1847, you’ll anchor in Mackaye Harbor at the southernmost point of the island overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca. As your epic adventure concludes, take time to appreciate your peaceful surroundings. Listen to the subtle waves roll onto the sandy beach, watch as the birds soar overhead, and breathe the fresh air deep into your lungs. Take a leisurely hike to the Iceberg Point monument overlooking the vast ocean beyond. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars for a chance to see Cattle Point Lighthouse on San Juan Island. Return to a perfectly prepared beach picnic and celebrate your last night onboard your yacht.
Indulge in your last breakfast aboard your private yacht while underway. Your friendly and attentive crew will ensure you arrive safely back at Cap Sante Marina. We hope you have enjoyed experiencing this unique destination onboard an extraordinary yacht!
