The Newport Boat Show recap

Newport boat shows

Yachts from all over the east coast filled the Newport Shipyard, Bowen’s Wharf and the surrounding waterfront in Newport, Rhode Island this September. The summer has drawn out boaters young and old to this historic maritime town. Set amongst the iconic coastal scenery, national historic sites, trendy boutiques, and world-class restaurants are the east coast’s most popular yachting centric events. The main event, the Newport International Boat Show, ran in conjunction with the Newport Brokerage Show and coincidently, the same weekend as the Rolex NYYC Invitational Cup.

amazing yachts on display

The Newport International Boat Show (NIBS) is the northeast’s largest in-water collection of yachts for sale and one of the most prestigious shows in the country. This year there were new yachts on display by Hinckley Yachts, Vicem, Hunt Yachts, Back Cove and Sabre. For local sailboat enthusiasts, one could peruse boat from Beneteau, Hylas, Hanse, Jeanneau and Tartan – just to name a few. The docks were full each day of the show with active buyers, brokers and yacht owners.  This year’s event included boats in the water of every type and style from 15- 90 feet, and a wide variety of accessories, equipment, electronics, gear and services for boaters. The total number of visitors attending the Newport Boat Show was up 10% over 2019!

"It feels so good to be back"

“It feels so good to be back,” said Nancy Piffard, show director, Newport Exhibition Group. “Ticket sales exceeded expectations this year, and exhibitors noted that the quality of and engagement with attendees was outstanding. It was clear that both businesses and consumers were excited to be back at an in-person event. This bodes well for the rest of the boat show season and the marine industry’s continued growth in 2022 and beyond.”

Owners & Boat enthusiasts

This was the same story a little further down the bay at the Newport Shipyard. Owners and boat enthusiasts were crowding the docks as each day was as busy as you would expect on a typical Saturday at the show. The Worth Avenue Yachts’ represented yachts,- BIG DECISION, a 55’ Hinckley Yacht and EAST BY SOUTH, the Abaco 47 were stars of the show. On hand to answer questions and inform future yacht owners of the spectacular features of these yachts was veteran broker, Managing Partner of Worth Avenue Yachts Newport office and President of Yacht Brokers Association of America, Jonathan Chapman, Newport Sales Expert William Baldwin and the newest addition to the rockstar team, Captain Sean Meagher.

exceptional event

The weekend was rounded out with an exceptional event at the iconic Firehouse #1 in downtown Newport. The property’s massive observation tower offered a birds-eye-view of the entire Newport Bay filled with yachts of all shapes and sizes. Worth Avenue Yachts’ charter yachts BROADWATER and HAVEN could be seen in the distance, both on charters with full calendars ahead. The team at Worth partnered with Gustave White Sotheby’s Realty to host top clients for an evening of canapes and libations. Live music filled the firehouse as the sun set over the water casting shadows of yachts, sailboats, trawlers, and everything in-between. The 2021 yachting season in Newport, Rhode Island was as glorious as ever.  We look forward to seeing you next year for another great event!
