The annual Seattle Yacht Club Opening Day is a highlight of the spring social season in the Pacific Northwest. On the first Saturday in May, the Seattle Yacht Club hosts Opening Day ceremonies to kick off the summer boating season. Hundreds of private yachts and vessels participate, decked out in colorful flags and decorations. The Opening Day parade starts at noon, as the boats pass along the Montlake Cut en route to Lake Union. Spectators line the shores to watch the nautical procession and take in the festive atmosphere.
Seafair on Lake Washington
Seafair is a beloved summer tradition in Seattle that brings the excitement of hydroplane racing to the shores of Lake Washington each August. For over 70 years, Seafair has delivered thrilling competitions, vibrant parades, and spectacular air shows to the Emerald City. The centerpiece event is the Seafair Cup hydroplane races, where super-charged boats reach speeds over 200 miles per hour on the water. The roar of the engines and spray of water thrill crowds lining the lake. Seafair also features a torchlight parade with colorful floats winding through downtown and a dazzling air show with aerial acrobatics and stunts from the Blue Angels. For families and fans, it’s a much-anticipated series of events that celebrates Seattle’s maritime heritage on the picturesque lakefront.
Sailgating with the University of Washington
Sailgating brings the excitement of tailgating to the open waters. On fall Sundays, the harbors fill with sailboats streaming University of Washington flags as fans fire up grills on deck and tune into the game. Coolers are stocked with food and drink while fans don their purple and gold gear. The sailing community gathers for food, drinks and camaraderie before cruising into Union Harbor to cheer on their team. Rain or shine, sailgaters encapsulate the city’s passion for football and sailing in one perfect Northwest tradition. Worth Avenue Yachts has a fleet of private yachts available to book for your next sailgate!
Christmas Parades

As night falls, a flotilla of brightly lit and festively decorated boats makes its way through Lakes Union and Washington, delighting crowds on shore with a spectacular show. Many boat owners spend weeks in advance, stringing lights across every inch of their vessels and setting up elaborate Christmas scenes. On parade night, hot cocoa and holiday cheer fill the air as locals gather to watch Santa make his grand entrance by boat, waving merrily amid a sea of twinkling lights.
