Murray Lord
Yacht Consultant
Murray Lord hails from New Zealand, where he developed a passion for the outdoors and aquatic activities during his formative years. In his final year of high school, he embarked on a ten-day journey aboard the sail training vessel “Spirit of Adventure.” This experience ignited his enthusiasm for travel and yachting, prompting him to relocate to Australia at the age of 19. There, he worked as a photographer for two years while also engaging in volunteer work on the tall ship Alma Doepel in Melbourne. This role significantly enhanced his aspiration to pursue a career in yachting, leading to his first position on a motor yacht in Antibes in 1982. Murray steadily advanced through the ranks, achieving the title of captain in 1984 upon his arrival in the United States. He continued to serve as a captain on various charter and private yachts, including the 110-foot sloop Sensation from New Zealand, until the year 2000, when he transitioned to a shore-based role in Newport, Rhode Island. There, he began his career as a yacht broker with Little Harbor Yachts in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. For the past 24 years, Murray has specialized in the sale of both sail and motor yachts. In March 2024, he joined Worth Avenue Yachts, where he leverages his extensive knowledge to assist both buyers and sellers. Outside of his professional commitments, he enjoys sailing his own boat and operating larger yachts, such as the 56-meter Perini Zenji, the 56-meter Perini Fidelis, and the 60-meter Seahawk during events like the St. Barts Bucket Regatta, as well as regattas in Europe and the British Virgin Islands. Additionally, each year, Murray retreats to Stewart Island at the southern tip of New Zealand, where he reconnects with nature on his remote off-grid property. He also participates in adventure racing and has taken part in cycling competitions across Europe.
