Alerion YachtsYachts for Sale
Alerion Yachts is designed to cater to the contemporary sailing experience. The thrill of sailing with Alerion is embodied in a fast, responsive yacht that boasts stunning aesthetics, seamless handling, and adaptability to various conditions. Individuals, whether engaged in daysailing or cruising, can rediscover the joy of sailing on their terms, aligning with their moods and schedules. The history of Alerion Yachts traces back to 1912 when Nathanael Herreshoff crafted a 26-foot mahogany-planked daysailer, Alerion III, for himself. Seventy-five years later, this daysailer served as the inspiration for Alerion Yachts.
In 1988, Ralph Schacter embarked on a mission to blend the classic lines of the Herreshoff Alerion 26 with the modern performance of a Carl Schumacher design, resulting in the birth of the first modern luxury daysailer, the Alerion 28. Magazines praised its classic appearance, modern rig, hull, and performance, with Sailing World Magazine honoring it as the “Boat of the Year.” Holby Marine constructed seven boats in 1990-91, and TPI acquired the molds and rights, producing 25 Alerion 28’s in 1992.
Garry Hoyt took over the sales of Alerion 28’s for TPI in 1994, introducing the Hoyt Jib Boom for singlehanded sailing ease and a keel bulb for added stability. With the growing popularity of the Alerion 28, Hoyt expanded the Alerion Yachts brand by adding two more Schumacher designs: the Alerion Express 20 in 1996 and the Alerion Express 38 in 1997. Following Carl Schumacher’s death in 2002, Garry Hoyt and TPI’s Clive Dent assumed design responsibilities.
In 2006, the Alerion 33 was launched, maintaining the heritage of the 28 with similar exterior aesthetics and a performance underbody. It also featured overnight accommodations, including an enclosed head. Pearson Marine Group, after over 20 years of building Alerion Yachts, closed its doors in 2011, and USWatercraft took over the Alerion brand in 2012.
In 2015, USWatercraft introduced the TJ Perrotti and Langan Designed Alerion 30. The following year, Perrotti redesigned the interior of the Alerion Express 28 to optimize the resin-infusion construction process used by USWatercraft. This involved adding a structural grid to enhance hull stiffness and longevity. In late 2017, Peter Johnstone, the second generation of a well-known sailing family, acquired the Alerion brand. In February 2018, the first hull under the new Alerion Yachts ownership, hull number 471 of the Alerion 28, was removed from the mold. Alerion Yachts celebrated its 30th Anniversary in 2019.
