Ocean Alexander Based in Alblasserdam, Netherlands, Oceanco specializes in building 80-meter-plus (262-foot-plus) full-displacement, custom luxury megayachts.

Founded in 1987, the company (then led by CEO Richard Hein) originally built its yachts in Durban, South Africa, with fit-out taking place in various locations throughout the Netherlands.

Greek steel and shipping magnate Theodore Angelopoulos took over Oceanco in 2002 and propelled it to become a leader in the yachting industry. Today the company is owned by Dr. Mohammad Al Barwani, who acquired the organization in 2010.

Oceanco’s most recent build is the 290-foot (85.5-meter) motor yacht Nirvana that launched in early 2012, although its most noteworthy yacht is perhaps the 269-foot (82-meter) Alfa Nero, which was built for Angelopoulos.

The yard works with top naval architects and designers such as Adriel Design, Alberto Pinto, Andrew Winch, Azure Naval Architects, François Zuretti, Luiz de Basto, Nuvolari-Lenard, Sam Sorgiovanni, as well as up-and-coming designers like Igor Lobanov.

With exterior styling and interior design by Sam Sorgiovanni, the 290-foot (88.5-meter) five-deck Nirvana features a modern interior with natural fabrics and colors paired with teak, onyx, and eucalyptus.

The exterior offers up a pool, a hot tub off the master, an outdoor theater, as well as a helicopter landing pad. Six staterooms accommodate 12 guests. A large tender garage houses tenders and toys. Two MTU 20V 4000 M73L engines give Nirvana a top speed of 14 knots.

The 269-foot (82-meter) 2007 launch Alfa Nero pushed Oceanco to the limelight with its spectacular Alberto Pinto-designed interior and innovative on-deck swimming pool that drained at the push of a button to convert into a helipad.

The yacht accommodates 16 guests (12 for charter) and 28 crew. Azure Naval Architects penned the yacht, which features exterior styling by Nuvolari-Lenard. A pair of MTU 16V 595 TE70 engines power Alfa Nero to a 20-knot maximum speed and give it a range of 5,500 nautical miles.
