Viking Yachts is based in New Gretna, New Jersey, and recently celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2014. It began production on April 1, 1964, after Bob and Bill Healey bought a small, struggling New Jersey boat company and created Viking. Even with the market dominated by builders such as Bertram and Hatteras, Viking grew into a leading international supplier of semi-custom fiberglass yachts with more than 4,000 hull deliveries all over the world. The ’70s was where Viking real took off, with Viking building its first all-fiberglass model, the Viking 33′ Convertible, and launching the 40′ Convertible. The 40′ Convertible was a huge success, with over 600 40′ models sold over the next 16 years, and the same hull design being carried over to today’s Viking yachts for sale.
